Long enough to have determined he couldn't leave, but not long enough to have figured out anything else, such as how he got there and why someone apparently decided he needed an all-expenses-paid vacation. The staff had been eerily helpful, and he had mostly avoided the resort's other guests out of perceived necessity. After all, the reactions he would get on meeting strangers at home were rarely pleasant. He had serious doubts that they might be any better here in this gilded cage.

Still, he knew he couldn't isolate himself forever. The other guests were the only potential allies he had. He needed to take that chance. He needed...

He needed...

He needed to dig in to that glorious spread! Scents familiar and strange dragged him from the lobby into the huge (and, for the moment, empty) buffet. It was then that he realized that he was absolutely starving, and an errant breeze (or maybe the air conditioner kicking on) immediately pointed him in the direction of the perfect thing to sate his hunger. He made a beeline for a particular station and began piling food on two plates. Rouladen and Weisswurst, Käsespätzle, Kartoffelpuffer, and Butterbrezel, and Sauerbraten with Sauerkraut and Knoedel...by most people's standards it might seem like a truly ridiculous amount of food, especially for a rather scrawny-looking teenager.

Maybe being blue and furry and clearly not human has something to do with his truly impressive appetite.

comments

To go to sleep on the sand in an arid desert and wake up on the sand of a clean beach next to a crystal clear seaside cove? She wasn't unfamiliar with the concept of instantaneous transportation, but the last time that had happened to her, the explanation had been obvious in Jetfire.

This time, she couldn't find an explanation-- not that she was looking too hard. Her fellow "guests" at this resort seemed to have no idea, and the staff were closed-mouthed when it came to how she and her charge had arrived. If there were any other Cybertronians here, she and Beeper hadn't met them yet-- which was kind of okay by her.

Things had been hard, before she'd come here, and it was nice to get a little bit of break. It was nice to not have to flinch away from every distant whine of a plane or grumble of a truck engine and wonder if this time, it was the Autobots finally tracking her down. It was nice to have somewhere clean and secure to stay, and food freely available, a bed and fresh clothes every day-- showers-- clean metal for Beeper to eat instead of rusted salvage or worse--

So she hadn't been trying too hard to figure things out, preferring for the time being to take this weird fucking miracle for granted. She had forever to stress out and worry and wonder about getting back to the cold nights and lean meals and danger days in Namibia; and who knew how long she'd be here where it was warm but not scorching, and humid, and she could drink eighteen Cokes a day and eat dessert for every meal if she wanted to? (Not that she actually wanted to, but the option was nice.)

The ease was making her sloppy. She was dozing on a beach chair up under the trees while Beeper played at the interface between sand and surf, churning up huge divots out of the sand and chasing the waves back and forth with delighted, unmusical trills and chirpings. She wasn't paying attention the way she'd learned how to in the desert, to every sound and sight and approaching thing-- and so she didn't notice the thing approaching.

comments

The brown hair that swept across her forehead was certainly not Maya's, but the shade and length were not those of Pearl's, either. And the clothes she wore… In place of the Kurain robes she'd expected was a black and white skirt suit, remarkably like the one she used to wear, with a defense badge pinned to the lapel to complete the look. As she traced the familiar grooves of the badge, her heartbeat stuttered; if she didn't know better, she might believe this was her own body, alive and whole, not borrowed from an unknown source.

But Mia Fey did know better. Even if it were possible for the dead to return unaided, her own body had been cremated years earlier. That left only one logical explanation: that she was being channeled by someone who wanted her to look like herself. But why?

( this got long )

comments

Whether you've just arrived or been here for ages, your patronage is appreciated, and this is the staff's way of showing that appreciation. No expense has been spared where your enjoyment is concerned.

The day is pleasant, if a bit windy, with the temperature at a steady 75°F/24°C and a moderate breeze coming from the west. Although dark clouds have gathered on the horizon, the wind has, so far, kept the storm at bay. (You may find yourself treated to a spectacular light show come nightfall, however.)

Large waves swell in the distance, diminishing as they reach the shoreline. If you don't mind the slight chill to the water, you might be tempted to hit the waves with a surfboard, courtesy of the resort. A few volley ball nets are set up along the beach, and not too far from there, driftwood is being collected in a pile by staff in preparation for the nighttime bonfire.

The theme of the party is, as always, "sit back, relax, and enjoy yourself," which, along with a warm smile, is the only response you'll get if you question what brought you here. It might be best to follow that advice. After all, how many authentic, seaside Caribbean parties will you experience in your lifetime?

(OOC: Feel free to post your own threads outside of the ones below! They're simply there to act as prompts. All he could get out of the resort staff were assurances that the resort would provide anything he might need (except the police). The few guests he ran into were equally unhelpful, and hours of exploring the resort only found him right back where he started. It seemed he may have to (temporarily) admit defeat.]

[There was another, more pressing matter to attend to before he was off on any more wild goose chases.]

[Edgeworth hesitated just inside the door to the bar. That late in the evening there were only a few customers inside. A couple of them looked up as he entered then quickly returned to their own business; the rest didn't bother to look up at all. Once all eyes were off of him, he took a seat at the bar.]

[In seconds, the bartender was standing before him.] Good evening, sir. Sometimes Sollux found it hard to sleep with the sounds of the humans playing and laughing outside his door during the day, though that had improved once he got the hotel staff to change out the sleeping rectangle for a recooperacoon.

He lay sprawled in a hammock on the porch of his beachside cottage now, a book in his clawed hands - some stupid romance thing that probably kk would have loved, but it was what he'd found in the hotel library and whatever, it was weirdly compelling okay shut up.

Though in all honesty, he was drowsing a little, a drink on a table by his right hand and a book to read, and nothing much to worry about for once in his life.

comments

Thankfully, when this particular troll first arrived, he wasn't far from one of the caves that dotted the hills in the middle of the island. He had retreated deep into one of them and built himself a little nest.

Living off what could be found in the forest - particularly for a city troll - hadn't been particularly satisfying. So now this particular night, he crept down to the resort, avoiding the humans who walked the lanes and splashed in the pools that were open at night.

He stole a couple of beach towels and wrapped himself in them, concealing his horns and grey skin in a swath of fabric. He knew he looked like an idiot, but it was the only way, as he snuck into one of the restaurants to try to get at the buffet tables without being stopped.

He paused at one of the tables, sniffing, and grimaced. Human food was weird. But he just had to hope it wouldn't kill him, as he quickly loaded up a bowl with something unidentifiable, and then made a beeline for the door.

comments
